Sohini Basu's passion for fashion began from before her student days at JDFIT, one of the pioneering institutions in the 1980s. Her career includes prestigious roles at well-known brands, buying houses and export houses, working as both fashion coordinator and designer, including collaborative projects with Wendell Rodricks.

Sohini is renowned for her expertise in traditional techniques from numerous parts of India. She was one of the first to bring Kantha, an intricate embroidery style into mainstream garments. Her hand-stitched sarees and collections of linen, handblock prints, and Batik have populated wardrobes of numerous celebrities, including Sunita Budhiraja, Shabana Azmi, Swastika Mukherjee, Parno Mittra, Tanusree Shankar, Swaroopa Ghosh.
